World-class teaching

Meet your instructor

I am a certified trainer and an artist specialising in acrylics, watercolour, and mixed media. You can find my work on my website

I have recently retired from my one-stop business that:

  • Sold art supplies
  • Held art workshops
  • Provided picture framing
  • Arranged art transport and
  • Hosted an art gallery

Due to my daily interaction with customers, over a period of 10 years, I am aware of the issues faced when commencing or restarting art, whether as a hobby or as a professional.

As a result, most of my courses will be tailored towards teaching the foundations of the media I work in, so that you will have the tools to fulfil your creative journey, rather than just showing you how to copy my style.

"You must know the rules before you can break them, otherwise you risk creating a masterpiece that won’t last the test of time."

Sue Deacon, Artist & Trainer

I have been creating artwork for as long as I can remember. From the earliest lessons as a child to the Diploma of Commercial Art I purchased with my first paycheques, undertaken through correspondence in pre-internet days.

I entered creativity competitions wherever they arose, be it the logo for my primary school, the junior council logo, or the photo of your sister that won me a prize in a national motorcycle magazine. Learning photography gave me a different view of the world, especially when my love of gardening and macro photography collided.

I began to understand how light works, how depth of field impacts the sense of distance in a single shot. As a result, I amassed a large number of close-ups of the flowers that I grew and they are reflected in my paintings.

While I was studying art, I was accepted for my nursing training and as a result I ended up in the healthcare field as a nurse, then a psychologist, quality and clinical risk management, patient safety and then senior management.

In 2015, I came full loop back to the art world. My business brought me into contact with professionals and amateurs and gave me a thorough and practical understanding of all aspects of the art world.

Having retired, I am finally able to immerse myself fully but with the benefit of having learned the complementary business skills of financial management, website management, marketing and promotion, sales and much more.
